How to qualify leads with AI without the interrogation feel

Lead qualification has a bad reputation because most of it is bad. Twelve questions before you book a call? Nobody's doing that. Here's how to qualify with AI in a way that feels helpful, not invasive.

The three-question rule

Pick the three questions that, answered, let you decide if this lead is worth your time.

For most service businesses: What do you need? Where are you? When do you need it?

Anything beyond three questions before booking starts to feel like a screening, and conversion drops fast.

How AI handles it gracefully

AI asks one question at a time, in conversation, and adapts based on the answer.

If a customer answers "AC repair, today, urgent," the AI doesn't ask about square footage, it just books the emergency slot.

If they say "thinking about a new unit, no rush," the AI knows to send pricing info and book a quote, not an emergency call.

What to never do

Don't ask for budget up front. Customers lie and leave.

Don't ask for credit card before booking unless it's industry-standard (med spa deposits, etc).

Don't ask for ID or address verification before the conversation has earned it.
